Prof. Sung earned his PhD in Immunology from KAIST and has conducted extensive research in liver cancer immunology, focusing on tumor immune microenvironment, immunotherapeutic biomarkers, and mechanisms of resistance to systemic therapies in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
His research bridges basic immunology and clinical hepatology, aiming to translate immunological insights into practical therapeutic strategies for patients with advanced liver cancer. He has led and collaborated on multiple translational and clinical studies investigating immune-oncologic approaches in HCC.
Clinically, Professor Sung is deeply involved in multidisciplinary management of advanced HCC, working closely with radiologists and hepatobiliary surgeons. He has particular expertise in the delicate management of patients who have failed systemic treatments, carefully integrating locoregional therapies and personalized strategies to optimize outcomes in complex clinical scenarios.
In addition to his research and clinical practice, he is committed to mentoring young clinician-scientists and promoting multidisciplinary collaboration in liver cancer care.
